no icon showing internet connection

According to my friends my xp should place icon in the
right low corner showing the internet connection (name,
speed, sent, received).
Also cannot expand My network connection places.
Internet works well, the same with net. Only have problem
with icon so cant disable connection. how to repair?
 
Their should be an option to display the icon in the
properties of your modem. Go to control panel click on
network connections click on the properties of the modem
you are using then just look around for the right box to
check
