I installed 2000 then XP Pro but can not see my I386 folder in the C drive.

Any idea?

thanks.

Unless you copied the source folder yourself it won't exist. Once
XP is installed it uses the \Windows\System32\DllCache as it's
sourcing point instead of i386.
You also have to be careful as the \Driver Cache folder will have
a sub-folder named i386 - not the same as the CD source folder.

Neither operating system copies the I386 folder to the C: drive on install.
You would need to copy it from the CD yourself.

The i386 folder only gets onto the hard drive one of two ways:

1) WIndows 2000 or XP was pre-installed by computer manufacturer and
install media was provided as a Recovery CD. i386 folder is provided
to allow you to add additional Windows modules.

2) You copy the folder yourself. Why anyone would do this copy is
unknown to me since the CD would always be available? Coping the
i386 folder for reasons, other than Option 1 above, takes up space on
hard drive.

Easy enough: speed and convenience. Updates from hard driver are a lot
faster than CD, and first you have to *find* the CD... (I've seen lots
of "Lost the CD. What do I do instead?" questions. Yuo may also want
to do this on a laptop while traveling. Do you carry your install CD
around with you?)

Drives are cheap, and the space usage isn't normally a major concern.
