I built a new pc (someone else's system) recently and planned on
copying the files that were on the desktop from the old drive (which
was to installed as slave/secondary drive) on to the new one. After
reinstalling windows, under
\documents and settings\user_name\desktop there were no files.
Popped the old drive back in the old pc, booted up and they were all
there. I moved them all to a new folder on the root. No problem, I got
them on to the new drive.
WHY does that happen and where were those files actually kept? Are
they accessible in some way other than logging in with the user
profile they belonged to? Same thing with shared files. There are none
unless booting with THAT hard drive.
Thanks.
