No Emulation

When I try to boot from the XP Home CD there is a line on
the DOS boot screen that reads "no emulation" and then
setup stops responding. Any ideas?

This usually means you are using a Hard drive that is too big for your BIOS
to handle,
You probably need to update your BIOS chip.
Call your Bios Manufacturer for a new flash update or a new chip.
The cost is very reasonable.

The hard drive is a Western Dig 80 GB partitioned into a
20 GB and a 60 GB. The motherboard is an ASUS P4S8X.
Windows XP Home is already installed on this drive. All I
want to do is repair the installation. What would cause
the BIOS to not handle the hardware now when a few months
ago the installation went just fine?

Duuuuuh, I don't have an answer to that,
Is your drive seen, when you boot into the Bios?
Does it show the full size of the drive?
Are you using Fat 32 or NTFS?

Dumb Questions I guess,
Jerry

Yes, the BIOS sees the drive just fine. I used Partition
Magic to merge the two partions on the drive thinking
that Setup didn't like them, but it made no difference.
The drive is NTFS.
Today I disconnected the floppy and never got as far as
the line in the BIOS screen that says "press any key to
boot from the CD" Weird, isn't it?

I have had this issue on two machines one at work and one at home usin
Windows Xp Pro i found that if you partition your HDD using fdisk an
not of the windows cd it actually removes the message and works fin
