"no dial tone" message

When I try to send a FAX or dial using hyperterminal
(Wind XP), I can hear the dial tone on the internal
speaker, but the call does not go through and the
message "NO DIAL TONE" is shown. Any ideas on rectifying
this problem?

Wrong country setting of the modem so it fails to detect dialtone.
Find a country setup utility for your modem.
If everything else fails, try blind dial (ATX4)
