no desktop icons and error message when logon to xp

When I boot up my pc, i get to the main screen, select one
of the users, and enter my password. then i get an error
message saying "this application has failed to start
because BROWSEUI.dll was not found. Reinstalling the
application may fix this problem."

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Browseui is a critical OS file. You will need to remove
and reinstall some of the fixes from MS as the file is
periodically updated.
