I am more of a basic user of Access - no advanced programming experience. I
have a table similar to the following:

STORE NAME BLAH BLAH BLAH
Best Buy ...... ..... .....
Best Buy ...... ..... .....
Best Buy ...... ..... .....
Blockbuster ...... ..... .....
Blockbuster ...... ..... .....
Blockbuster ...... ..... .....
Macy's ...... ..... .....
Macy's ...... ..... .....
Macy's ...... ..... .....
Macy's ...... ..... .....
Blah, Blah, Blah

I would like to have a query which will tell me how many of each store name
I have. For example:

STORE NAME
Best Buy 3
Blockbuster 3
Macy's 4

I need help. I have no clue how to! I see it might be either a "count" or
"DCount" function but I wouldn't know where to begin. Your help is
tremendously appreciated.

Cheers,
Christine

James - Can you please be more specific. I don't know what that means. Step
by step would be helpful. Thanks so much. Christine

Open a new query
Select your table
Put the Store name field in the query twice
Select View: Totals from the menu
In the new line - Totals - change the group by under ONE of the fields to Count

That should return
Best Buy 3
Blockbuster 3
Macy's 4
....

An SQL statement would look like

SELECT [Store Name], Count[Store Name] as StoreCount
FROM [YourTableName]
GROUP BY [Store Name]

Awesome, John. Thank you soooo much!
