NO CD IN DRIVE

After I have used a CD and removed it, I keep getting these infuriating
messages telling me there is no CD in the drive (as if I didnt know).

Any way I can stop these messages pls?
Judy

Is it telling you to please place a certain cd in the drive? It sounds to
me as if there is a program or process that is wanting a particular cd to be
in the drive... many games require the cds to be in the drive in order to
run, for example. If it's only telling you that there is no cd in the
drive, but not requesting that you put one in... that would be strange
indeed.

Start | Run <type in> MSCONFIG <enter>

Search the startup tab to see what is trying to access your CD.

No Eric, I'm just waiting for it to happen again so I can type in exactly
what it says.

Trax, went in msconfig - startup shows only the following programs checked.

eBayTBDaemon (ebay toolbar)
pccguide (Trend Micro Internet security)
winpatrol (winpatrol)
MSASCUI (win patrol)
msnmsgr (Messenger)

All of these are legitimate programs. Except that MSASCUI belongs to
windows defender.

next:
ctrl+alt+del, click on task manager. THis should be a list of all tasks
running.

What are the contents of the Applications tab?
What are the contents of the Processes tab?

You type'd all that out :) thanks but nothing looks like it would
start from a CD.

If you remove a CD while a program (even explorer) is using it in
anyway (loaded a picture from it) it will complain about it.

If any of your security programs are set to scan the CD you will get a
NO CD error.

download and run Process Explorer
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

leave it running - when you get the error go to PE and double click on
the new process (caused by the error) reading the image and command
line might help (what program is involved).

In case your going to type the process tab out do this:

Start | Run <type in> CMD /K TASKLIST > TASK <enter>

In that window type in: NOTEPAD TASK - copy and past the list.

I see you type'd em out not bad, some people I've seen have had 79
process's, could of been a lot of typing.

Good news is everything here is verified as legitimate.

What happens if you give your computer the CD that was removed just
before all of this started?

Believe it or not - it has not happened again since I first put this message
up. I have put cd's in, played them, taken them out, and nothing has
happened.

The only thing I did was uncheck a program from startup before I sent the
list to you - but I've put it back on now, and still no change, so it must
just have sorted itself out. Meanwhile, I will get back to you if it occurs
again.
Many thanks for you help.

Hello again, well I put the disc in, one of a set of 4, worked on it, took
it out a while ago, and just got the following request.

First there is a red circle with a white cross. It says There is no disk
in th drive. Please insert a disk into Drive D: and gives me the option
cancel - try again - continue.
A funny thing to, on the to bar, it says
HintForm: ChamClock.exe - No disk.
Well Chameleon Clock is a free program, does not even come with a disc and
has no relation to the discs I opened earlier. Hope this can help you.
