no buffer space available - cannot find server?

With increasing frequency lately, when I try to check my eudora email
I get an error message "no buffer space available". Concurrent with
that, I am unable to open any web page - "cannot find server - page
cannot be displayed"

I am running windows XP and have not had this problem at all until a
few days ago. I don't know if it is related but I updated my java
software to the latest version a few days ago.

The problem is intermittent.

Can anyone tell me how I can get around this?
