How come nobody has answered my scanner problem? should be an easy reg
tweak...but its over my head.......

Check with the scanner manufacturer at their website.
The answer may be there.

I already tried to the manufacturer of my scanner and they want me to spend
400.00 for software, why do that when the way I have it set up it works
fine. The problem is that xp wont let me error it out it keeps trying to
install the scanner and the wrong one for that matter. Please read my post
earlier. I need to edit the reg. so xp will stop being stupid. Thanx

Many scanners that worked fine under Win98 just will not function correctly
under Windows XP. If the manufacturer will not write new drivers for it I'm
afraid you must buy a new scanner.

If you know what to do then why bother posting?!

well I would stop posting if I knew what to edit in the reg to get xp to
stop being stupid. Like I said the scanner works great in xp. It's just that
XP keeps trying to install it as a Lino-Hell Office 2, it is a Jade 2 made
by Heidelberg (technically it is a Lino-Hell) I have installed the driver
for the jade 2 Hence it works, there are no drivers for Lino-Hell Office 2.
That's why I need to edit the reg so xp stops trying to install the darn
thing. Thanx again

This not Microsoft customer technical support, it is a user
newsgroup. You need to ask a question and give details
about your problem, complaining that nobody will answer you
doesn't encourage help. Not stating the problem doesn't
help much either.

In general, there are two problems with scanners, some do
not have any XP drivers and some are installed by users out
of proper sequence.

If your company does not offer free drivers (even HP does
for most models) you may be SOL.

If you install a scanner, the usual procedure is to install
the software, then connect the scanner (USB) so that when
new hardware is detected the correct drivers are installed.
Once you get the wrong drivers installed it requires that
you remove all the incorrect drivers and start again
following the proper procedures. Parallel connections may
be slightly different, RTFM.

Do not despair, a new scanner that is probably better and
faster than your old scanner you just can't bear to give up
is a lot less than $400, probably less than $200.

O.K. I give up, I did in fact state my problem quite clear too maybe I
should cut and paste my original problem every time I reply?, I even had a
"non-computer literate person read my post" and they got the point. So
perhaps I will use French next time. If I could use Microsoft support I
would, and as to replacing the scanner hmmmm "this old one" eh? try
$1,300.00 new $900.00 used and working. This scanner outputs cmyk at 2400
dpi, scans slides has transparency lid. So thanx for your advice I do have a
$40.00 scanner that I use for GP stuff. Somebody out there has to know how
to tweak the registry, so xp stops trying to install something that works
just fine. Thanx.

I understand your problem, and have no solid answer. But, if the scanner
is turned on and off, after XP is up and running, I suggest that it
instead be left powered up at all times, which solved a similar problem here.

Also, initially install per Jim suggestions.

Thanx a lucid answer finally. I guess with that idea I will just have to
wait until xp gives up the issue and 'sorta' errors out. I did install
everything first in fact inc. the scsi card, then the progs etc. Also did it
backwards too, but xp just wants to install the wrong scanner. Thanx

Good idea, cut and paste your problem, because the first
time I saw your thread there was nothing but your complaint
about lack of free service.

If you can afford such an expensive scanner you can afford
to hire a programmer to tweak your registry or write a
driver for you. In fact, it seems that the mfg'r does have
such a service, you are just too cheap to pay for it.

One problem is that you are not including previous portions
of the thread, you cut out the answer which you say was
"lucid" so it does not help anybody know what the hell you
are asking, answering or complaining about.
