That indicates a problem with the audio drivers.
Make sure you are using the latest Windows XP audio drivers.
If not, get them form the manufacturers web site.

theres only 1 problem when i try and update the drivers it says my sound card
is not there but when i check in the drvice manger it says it is there. i
have had this problem even befor i got the sound card i think my comp has a
onboard sound card as well case i had sound befor i instaled the now crative
sound card. my bro some how figuerd it out when i first got the computer and
im trying to fig out how he fixed it the first time.

You may need to disable the on board audio in the BIOS, but this was most
likely already done if it worked before.
Check your manual and/or contact the motherboard manufacturer for details.
Make sure you are updating the correct driver and not the on board which you
are not intending to use.

Download the correct drivers.
It may be an executable you can install by double-clicking and following
prompts.
Otherwise open Device Manager after downloading drivers.
Double click your sound card.
Click Driver tab
Click Update driver.
Follow prompts.
