Hello:

I am not sure if this is the NG but I am running Windows Pro Ser 2 and I
cannot download several files when I use an FTP server. It tells me that it
cannot connect 119. I try to ping but it fails and it drops the packets. I
use telnet and it fails as well to get anything back.

I have been trying to read and setup an NNTP server, seeing this is the
server that it states needs to be open. Question is how do I open the port?
I am using the beta antispyware of Windows. I have turned it off, no joy.
Actually, I am not sure where I need to go to open or set up port 119. any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

berto

Port 119 is generally used for Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) nothing
to do with FTP. Either case check your firewall settings.

Since you're using Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2670 to connect to these news
groups I'd say NNTP is working for you.
BTW you can connect directly using news.microsoft.com
