Nividia driver helper

I have read in many mant places that the Nvidia Driver Helper Service is not
needed by xp.

I disabled it and my system definately shuts down faster and there arte no
apparent problems caused by not having it.

I am just curious. WHat is it supposed to do? WHy has MS put something in
that seems to cause a problem and has no apparent benefit.

Am I missing something?

Nobody seems to know, not even nVidia.
WHy has MS put something in

The nVidia Detonator driver installation installs this (and a bunch of
other stuff) .. MS don't write the drivers (usually), they just release
what they are given (if it passes WHQL, which I guess the nVidia drivers
did). As you say, nobody seems to suffer from having this service set to
manual, or even disabled (but the same could be said of a lot of the MS
supplied services. 8>.)
