NIC works, but no networking

I am repairing a home computer for a customer. He claims the Internet
access stopped working "suddenly". The problem is the NIC won't
"Obtain an IP Address Automatically" from the server, although its
set to do so on the "Network Settings" and DHCP server is running
on the server (I have other computers in the house attached to the
network). I tried booting Linux from a CD-ROM (without installing it)
and the computer connects to the DHCP server, gets an IP address and
connects to the Internet.

I have tried deinstalling the network driver and installing the latest
version from the DELL website. No luck. Re-Installing is the last thing
I want to do. I appreciate any ideas.

Thanks,

Erasmo.

Also, make sure that the DHCP Client service is started and has the
"Automatic" startup type. To see, go to Start | Run | services.msc

Hello Steve,

I checked that webpage but it doesn't apply to my particular situation
(I have the right driver and I can't try a different slot because the
NIC is on the mobo). Nevertheless I made sure I'm running on 100mbs
full duplex and that the DHCP Client Service is running and its
automatically started.
