oops sorry meant to send to test NG

...but, seeing as it's here, I've forgotten the syntax for how to make a URL
to an NG in a post :-)

nntp://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

See RFC 1738 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1738.html) for proper URI/URL
syntax for protocols predating 1994 (including nntp:// and and
search the RFCs for URI/URL syntax for later protocols.

Thankyou :-)
....and as you already know :-

it's news://*.*/ where *.* is the name of the news server e.g.
microsoft.com | forward slash | then name of NG to resolve all separated by
dots.

But when you're fiddling, as I was, and manually typed one out, and typed
"conversation" at the end of a MS NG URL instead of "conversion," to then
discover of course that "there is no such NG" etc. (as pointed out by
Frank Saunders MVP in
news://microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general ..then it's
obviously time to call it a day, switch it off, and go to bed !

regards, Richard

...scrap that, I've done it again !

Thankyou :-)

.....and I've just twigged that half my problem it seems, and which leads me
up the garden path thinking that I'm malforming NG URL's and/or am
mispelling them - is that when I have IE7's Internet Security Zone set to
High, THIS is when NG URL's in an email or NG post, when clicked on, won't
work !!

regards, Richard

I'll keep IE6 for now ;-)

News takes no server arguments: It can only direct to a newsgroup. Setting
news URLs like NNTP URLs will guarantee that the URL will only work
properly in Outlook Express (which handles NNTP and News URLs incorrectly).
