there any scuttlebut going around about when MS plants to release its next
Windows XP service pack?

SP3 for Windows XP Home Edition is currently planned for 2H 2007. This
date is preliminary.

MS is going to beat it's own record for longest gap between Service
Packs by at least a year.

Never mind... MS just announced that the next SP will be coming out sometime
in '07.

Not quite. They have stated that SP3 is "currently planned" for second half
2007, and state that that date is "preliminary." See

That kind of statement is a long way from a real announcement. It might turn
out to true or it might not. Don't bet the farm on its being accurate.
