I have a rather bizarre problem. When I try to install a new hardware (i.e. a
new printer), the Next Button keep being selected by itself, not allowing me
to select wether is a local or network printer and so on. Does sombody has
any idea why is this happening? Thanks a lot

You might be pressing a keyboard key, such as Enter, by mistake, or another
key eg n,e,x, or t that is underlined in the button. It can be selected via
a keyboard press, as well as a mouse click.

I am not pressing any key, it just does it by itself. Actually, when I
install software (such us Nero) it does not happen (inthat case the "Next" is
also underlined), just when is a Windows based hardware or functionallity
such as a printer, a new hardware detected by the computer, etc. THANKS!

But I am trying to install a printer... I have done it a dozen times with no
problem wathsoever...

It is not, it's a network printer. And it goes all the way to the end of the
installing process clicking de "Next" buy itself. It's not only a problem I
have with printers, it happens also when I tried to set up a new internet
conection, for instance.

It might be related to the options you are choosing in the early screen(s)
of the hardware wizard, ie try varying the choices you make early on in the
wizard eg non-automatic options versus automatic ones

Jon

The problem continues no mater wath options I select at the begining of the
wizzard. Could this be a virus I am not aware of? Thank you guys for taking
the time to answer!

Worth doing virus and spyware scans, just in case.

Along similar lines, it's also possible that another (benign) running
program (such as your antivirus or firewall) is somehow interfering with the
installation procedure. So disabling / stopping as many relevant third
party programs and services as you can [eg via Task Manager, msconfig
("Clean booting") , Control Panel or the command prompt) and then retrying
the hardware installation procedure might do the trick. You may be able to
pin the problem down to a culprit program via that route.

Anyhow that's me me out of ideas for today, but let us know if you discover
the solution.

No guys, I couldn't make the wizard work properly. Thanks any way and if your
help! I will keep looking for the answer...

If I think of anything else I'll let you know. It won't be for a couple of
days or so now, though, since the weekend's starting here in the uk - so by
all means start a new thread if you want a quicker response - this thread is
probably buried in the mists of time now, as far as most readers are
concerned.

:

If it is detected by the computer then it must be a local printer.
