Am trying out different newsreaders - so far XNews, 40Tude Dialog, Gravity.
Looks like a substantial learning curve. I'm thrown off by the interfaces,
though I suppose I could get used to a new one in time.

Is there a good one out there with a similar interface, i.e. as follows:

Left pane - tree showing newsservers, with newsgroups underneath each news
server
Upper right pane - list of newsgroup posts
Lowr right pane - message preview pane

Try Feedreader found at www.feedreader.com. I find it easy to use and it is
laid out just like OE.

Regards,
Bill

If you don't mind downloading the .NET Framework runtime (which
admittedly is a big if), Sharpreader has a few more features than
Feedreader; mainly, it can read Atom feeds in addition to RSS feeds.
Otherwise, the interface is about the same

I switched from OE to Xananews.

"Sauce Reader", the newest version don't need .net framework. It's
fantastic. Get it from Synop software. It's always in beta form but
updated every so often. You can allow it to advise you when.

The synop site ( http://www.synop.com/Products/SauceReader/ ) has the
following notice:
"Synop has closed for business.

We're very proud of all we've accomplished both internally and by
working closely with our customers and users. We appreciate all your
interest and support.

The Sauce Reader product and source code are for sale."

Plus, it doesn't support Atom feeds either.

Looks I misread the original poster, as did everyone else. Sorry,
spoon2001. He is looking for a newsgroup (Usenet) reader. How about
Free Agent? It looks like nowadays you have to download the Agent (the
shareware version), let it expire and it becomes Free Agent ( the
freeware version)

There's always Outlook Express, too.

2 corrections. Badgolferman understood you correctly, and Feedreader
does supports Atom feeds these days (which now I realize is irrelevant
to your question, but wanted to correct myself). Sorry
