What's the recommended free newsreader for binary newsgroups?
GrabIt is crippleware now.

The "Search" function - which wasn't in the original anyway - is
limited. Nothing in the reader/download part is crippled.

That's right. And the search function uses his server I believe. It's
how he's paying for making the program available. Probably better to
call it "liteware" rather than crippleware since the function isn't
critical to what the program is mainly for.... grabbing binaries. I will
also say this: compared to BNR2, the program is a dream! BNR2 got so bad
that I finally couldn't even use it. I don't believe I've EVER seen such
poorly written and buggy software.

I'm still careful about the definition of freeware and always will be,
but many in this group have taken this to mean that I won't use a
program if it doesn't fall into my orthodox definition of freeware. NOT
TRUE. Examples of other programs I use that aren't freeware:

a² Antitrojan
Adaware SE Personal
Adobe Acrobat Reader
AVG7
Helicon Filter
Kerio
WebWasher
WordWeb

Some of these are PROmotionware and others are liteware. The missing
features aren't critical to their main functions. Still, I have taken
recently to not promoting them in this group because ACF is supposed to
be for the discussion of freeware only. Given the nature of the way
people are always trying to **** up the definition of freeware (eg.
"liteware", "free download", "adware", etc. etc.), there's always some
new trick appearing to capitalize on the name and I usually fall for it
initially. Sooner or later though, the trick or catch is exposed and
it's either accepted or not.

Maybe another group is needed... something like
"alt.comp.nearlyfreewarebutnosharewareadwareorspyware" 80)>
