Newsgroups are certainly better than that web based interface :-)

Phil;
msnews.microsoft.com

I would definitely NOT go to Microsoft for access!!

There are several good ones I know of.

uncensorednews.com

allthenewsgroups.com

thundernews.com

rhinonewsgroups.com

giganews.com

I've used uncensorednews, and I've used allthenewsgroups.

Both are good, allthenewsgroups is cheaper, if you don't download a
lot of binaries. ( I do)

I suggest you look up 'news groups" in your favorite search engine.

I would not put 2 Cents in Bill Gates' pocket if I could help it!

Too many have FORGOTTEN that Bill Gates is a CONVICTED FELON!

MONOPOLIES are against the law, and Microsoft is the world's biggest
MONOPOLY!

And note, even after he LOST in court, Microsoft wasn't forced to
break up, the way Ma Bell was awhile back!

Microsoft has been decided in COURT to be a MONOPOLY, but they didn't
break up!

Bill Gates has revised our culture in a VERY BAD way.

It used to be that we'd say,

"Well, you know what they say: "Crime Doesn't Pay!" "

Well, now, that's not true anymore!

Now we say,

"Well, you know, crime doesn't pay, unless you're Bill Gates!"

Bill Gates proved you CAN get to be too wealthy and too POWERFUL to
prosecute and put in jail!

Which is where he belongs!

Do not, DO NOT support Bill Gates the convicted FELON (convicted
monopolist) by buying ANYTHING from Microsoft that you can do without.

Many servers have it, but the best server for it is Microsoft's server:
msnews.microsoft.com. It's free, it always gets all the messages, and it
gets them first. All the other servers just mirror the Microsoft one, and
that can account for a delay as well as problems with missing messages.

Why not?
There really is no good reason not to get Microsoft newsgroups directly from
Microsoft.

Since the OP was asking about this newsgroup.
I prefer to go straight to the source.
None of the ones you mentioned are the source for these Microsoft
newsgroups.

I can count on the Microsoft news server to always have the Microsoft
newsgroup I want when I want it.
And that is not always true with any of the ones you mention.

I see no reason or advantage to get something from a 3rd party when it can
be gotten from the source with more reliability.
Those just add another unnecessary layer and another thing to go wrong.

Now perhaps for non Microsoft newsgroups...

You definitely need to read the OPS post.
Nothing was said about buying anything.

And getting Microsoft newsgroups directly from a Microsoft server costs
nothing.
But it may actually be faster than the middleman you suggest is not
necessary.

Accessing newsgroups through the MS server is free. All the other
servers get it from the MS servers, so there can be time delays and lost
information using other servers.

It depends what you're looking for. For the microsoft.public.* groups,
msnews.microsoft.com is definitely the best choice. It carries all of
those groups, and is the definitive source for them. It's free for
everybody to read from and post to.

For other, general USENET groups, certainly not. msnews.microsoft.com
carries only the microsoft.public.* hierarchy. For USENET groups,
you'll need to access your ISPs USENET server, or one of the many
available commercial server services.
