I am new to MSN and today I received a response from customer service on how
to set up my newsgroups through outlook express. obviously I am here now
but I am surprised that it appears to be very restrictive in only dealing
with computer problems. In the past I was able to have access to hundreds
of newsgroups that were set up for any subject that anyone might find of
interest. How do I get into that list of newsgroups that are not just
pertaining to MSN? Also do I have to use Outlook express? Every time I
bring up outlook express it automatically signs me off with MSN.

The is an MS-Access database newsgroup. If I were you, I call MSN support
and tell them about the sign-off problem. They should also be able to help
with connecting you to UseNet where you can find as many as 100,000
newsgroups embracing any subject you may be interested in.

Hello and greetings!

You've connected the Microsoft public newsgroup and we'd like
to thank you for visiting.

In answer to your newsgroup question, you have several options:
1) Contact Qwest in Utah City and ask them what the name of
their public news server is.
2) http://my.qwest.net/nav4/help/your_acct/newsgroups.html
The link above indicates that the news server for qwest is:
news.qwest.net

Configure the newserver account in OutLook Express to use
the news.qwest.net news-server. This should get you to the
point where you will see 40,000+ newsgroups. If you do not
connect to the Internet through Qwest, then you'll need to
contact your Internet Service Provider and question them
about their public subscriptions to news-servers. The person
you reach will probably not have a clue about what you are
talking about so if you need because they are probably hired
in India (thanks to George Bush and friends-no disrespect to
anyone in India - thank you for your support!), so you might
have to explain to them that you want to subscribe to one or
more of 40,000+ newsgroups and that this is offered to all
customers of every Internet Service Provider in the U.S.A.
and maybe they'll refer you to someone that knows what
you're talking about.

I hope this helps and good luck!

I was in a conference call with both MSN support and qwest support where I
have my DSL service. I was shocked to find out that MSN will not support
USENET because MSN does not have a pop3 server which would be required to
get usenet through outlook express. MSN's server is a web based server. I
may find a different isp than MSN.

MSN is terrible still? Make sure you cancel immediately and ask
to get your money back. They tend to violate rights in this
regard and really want you to take them to court to get your
money back. I'm just speaking from personal experience where
by I canceled and they kept charging for service that never
existed. They violated my rights and I will never suggest anyone
use them. Make sure you put it in writing because they deny they
ever get email from you.
