newsgroups in Vista

It seems that Vista is limited to Microsoft newsgroups only. In XP there was
a wide variety available through use of Outlook Express (i.e. Boston Red
Sox). They had an "alt." prefix as I recall. Where have they gone in Vista?

Windows Mail has the same newsgroups access as OE.
All you need to do is add a news account with a news server.
Your ISP may have a free news server you can use.

Comcast tells me that they no longer offer newsgroups. Now what? Are all
newsgroups for pay now? If any are free, please tell me the server ID. Many
thanks.
 
Switch to a better ISP? My ISP (AT&T) still has newsgroups.

The public Microsoft newsgroups are free when accessed through the MS server.
 
Thanks, Gary. BTW I have enjoyed reading your other postings Switching to
another ISP could be a solution, but newsgroups are not that important to me.
They used to be very useful until the cretins fouled them up with profanity
and adverts. The travel groups can be very helpful if monitored. I have MS
public newsgroups, but they do not include travel groups.

Go here http://www.motzarella.org/ it is a free news server, but you have to
register, and they send you the set up instructions by email, so use a real
address to register, then use a munged address in the account setup process.
