Newsgroup message rule?

I guess you could consider this post a test of sorts because I am trying to
set a rule that will highlight all of the messages that I send to a
newsgroup in a different color. So far I have not had much success with this
endeavor.
I set a rule that states: Where the from line contains "m8rix", Highlight it
with "red". I would like the rule to apply to all newsgroups on the server
(news.microsoft.com) but when I apply the rule it says it it is applied to
only one folder (microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser) even
though I am subscribed to three other groups on the same server.
If this test fails I will be back for further assistance. If my methods are
flawed from the start some feedback would be appreciated.
TIA..............Mark N.

Not possible.

For any message that you respond to (or initiate), click the eyeglass symbol in front of it. That makes the thread watched and changes the color (to red or....).

The test appears to have been a success as the highlighting appeared for
both groups to which I posted, neither of which was the
inetexplorer.ie6.browser group/folder to which the rule was said to have
been applied to.

Where the From line contains people
Highlight it with color & Stop processing more rules
Click on Contains People and add your news posting address
(in your case: (e-mail address removed) )
Click on Color and select the color you want
Name the rule

Note: You can only have one color for all newsgroup headers.

Hi Kelly,

Don't click Apply Now and it will be applied to all NGs.
Just OK out of there. I have a *few* addresses that I have
the same rule for. PITAs, most of them, and one rule works
for all NGs. I know I can do this for my posting address
also, because I have done it.

I did it mostly because there are a few that I'd rather not
get involved with. Works for me. Let me know. <s>

easier to make it work if you just use the "name" part of your email address, apply the color and apply "WATCHED" to the rule.
what I do and it works all the time, but for all news groups.

That approach will apply the rule to any *new* messages/headers. For any that
are already downloaded though the rule will not be applied.

The trick to "apply now" is to click Apply Now, select the rule(s) to apply,
then click the Browse button and select the news account (to apply the rule to
all groups on that account), or a single group (to apply only to that group),
or to Outlook Express (to apply the rule to all groups on all accounts). After
you select where the rule should be applied, you then click Apply Now to
execute the rule. The rule will of course also be applied automatically to
headers/messages as they are downloaded in the future.

The original poster failed to click Browse to select the news account.

After you click Apply Now and select which rule(s) to apply), you need to click
the Browse button to select the news account. Applying a rule manually defaults
to the first subscribed group on the default news account.
