news windows update missing

i am now using windows xp professional...the problem that occur to my computer are .....
1)usually news windows update had been installed to our computer appear at the bottom of my computer screen....but it is gone...
2)i clicked into the control panel and afterthat i click troubleshooting and nothing happen...the same problem occured when i click on the help and support buttob..its seems like the file is missing or something...
3)i had download movies and videos from the internet n tried to use the windows media player to play it..unfortunately..there was a codec error...i had download the codec from the microsoft but it is stiill no working..
 
Click tools---options---in OE and check your settings on the general tab.
