I had left Outlook open and I noticed that my computer restarted. When I
tried to open News within Oulook a folder opened instead of NewsReader. I
deleted News command from Toolbars thinking to place it again. I reset the
Menu bar but News command is nowhere. It is not in Customize menu. Shall I
reinstall Outlook? This is the second time it happens. last time I had
uninstalled all Office 2003 and reinstalled and reset the menu bar and News
command appeared again in Customize menu.
What do you suggest?

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process. Not everyone is reporting success
with this method, but try it and see what happens. If all else fails, you
can always create a desktop shortcut to Outlook Express and include the
/outnews switch -- that gives you the same result as accessing the
newsreader via the News command in Outlook.

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, click the "Don't ask me again" box and then click the No button.
You may need to reset the menu or toolbar using Tools, customize.

I noticed in the instructions given that it is being suggested that you
answer NO to making Outlook Express your newsreader default when prompted.
This is incorrect. You should answer YES to Outlook Express being the
default and choose NO when prompted to make Outlook the default newsreader.
This is an important distinction and should not be overlooked. Otherwise,
the solution may not work properly.

I chose OE in Programs tab and I reset the menu bar in Outlook customize
menu then News command appeared under Go tab then I placed it again in
Toolbar. I clicked on News command on the toolbar and Outlook Newsreader
opened. I answered Yes when asked if Outlook should be default Newsrerader..
I closed Newsreader and clicked again on News command then again I got
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 folder instead of Outlook
newsreader.

If you want to use the Go, News button with Outlook 2003 to open OE in
news-only mode, always answer No if OE asks to be the
default - however, OE should be the one listed in the Control panel,
Internet options. Ignore the default news reader settings in OE's tools,
options.
