XP Home SP1

Start Menu, right side > Connect to > two options, Show all Connections
(of course) and NeWeazel . Clicking on NeWeazel gives a dialog box with
user name and password fields, and the tooltip says Communication
between two computers. Apparently it's a connection system for
something, but what is it exactly? I don't remember specifically
installing it, but it could have come with something.

Nothing for NeWeazel on an MSN search:

Hi

If the name of the file is spelt correctly:

Have you virus checked your system with the latest definitions for your Anti
Virus program?

Also please try these programs to check for any spyware that may be on your
system:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://forum.aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.zip
Spy Sweeper - www.webroot.com

Try SpyWareBlaster to stop intrusions:

Are you familiar with NeWeazel, or are you just making an educated
guess?
It just doesn't look like hijackware; it looks like something MS might
make. http://home.kc.rr.com/plumb/neweazel_screenshot.jpg
Also, it doesn't appear to be doing anything.
In the screenshot, the left box is what opens when you click on it, the
next is properties, and then security tab settings. The Help takes you
to a lot of stuff on network connections.
I can't figure out how I got this thing. I also am surprised I couldn't
learn anything by a search.

When Google comes up with exactly one (1) hit for 'neweazel'

- Nehmo -
I found that too. It's about something else.

and you have no idea where it came from, I am assuming (1) it's
unknown malware or (2) you didn't post
the correct spelling or name.

On the screenshot,
http://home.kc.rr.com/plumb/neweazel_screenshot.jpg
you can see the spelling. It's spelt NeWeazel alright.

Nothing found with AdAware or Spybot S&D. Nothing strange (that I could
tell) in the processes.

I recently installed Azureus, and just recently, TMPGEnc.exe and
MediaInfo.exe. They all work okay. Maybe they had nothing to do with it.
I don't even know how long NeWeazel has been there.

It looks like it genuinely is some system to connect two computers to
each other, but it seem if that were the case, a search would have
yielded something.

There is a program called Weazel for copying web sites so perhaps it's
related?

However I'm with PA Bear. It sounds more like some kind of dubious internet
accelerator or malware. Perhaps too new to be identified as such (eg so no
google hits).

If you have a dial up line make sure it isn't dialing some premium rate
number at night when you are asleep.
