With all of the updates and security patches is it possible to buy a
retail version of XP that is "current" with previously known problems
fixed? Or is there only ONE version of XP and you have to install of
the patches? TIA...

Also, if they are selling fixed XP versions, how do you know if you
are about to purchase the "latest" version of XP?

Updating, patching, and fixing is an ongoing process.. just buy a copy and
download whatever needs to be..

Hi,

There are two varieties, those with and without SP1 included. You won't know
which you have until you actually install it though. Most on the shelves now
include SP1. All other updates (including SP1 for the older CD's) must be
downloaded and installed from the WindowsUpdate site.

..........."current"?..............
not unless you visit the factory where they are made and
get one off the assembly line.
have plane ticket...will travel?

any cd-rom on the store shelf is MONTHS old. even your
sunday morning newspaper is two days old. starbucks
coffee might be "current".

just do the weekly updates! there must be 10 minutes in
your WEEK that you can stop and update the computer.
don't be so LAZY.

the virus guys are out there 24/7 writing/sending out new
viruses all over the WORLD. these are not coming from
kid next-door. well maybe. you would never know. ask him.

the length of time it took you to type your message and
post it here you could have done the updates this morning.

probably takes you longer to do lots of things then a
weekly update.
