Hi. I am about to install the WinXP Fax service and wanted to ask if
there were any warnings or suggestions from the group before I spring
for it.
My first concern is what happens to the external fax machine at a
different location but on the same phone line as my fax modem. Does the
WinXP take precedence or what......
I have already successfully installed SP 2 and created a 'slipstream' CD
that includes SP 1 and my operating system from the Dell Recovery CD in
case that would affect the use of the Fax. Thanks for your time. deango

See my inline response...

WinXP can only take precedence on receive by setting the number of rings
required for it to answer; the device set to answer on a lower number of
rings will take the call. When sending with WinXP, there is a very good
chance the external Fax machine will print the outgoing Fax; about the only
way to prevent this is to use a different phone line with WinXP than the one
plugged into the external machine.

Thank you for your kind response Hal, I appreciate it and will use that
information to good advantage. Regards. deango
