I am using FP2000.

If you have an English(British) keyboard and Control
Panel / Regional And Language Settings is configured to
English(British), then pressing the £ key should make a £
appear. If it doesn't, then you may be using a font that
doesn't include a £.

In any event, you should be able to insert a £ character
by choosing Symbol from the Insert menu, selecting £, and
then clicking the Insert button.

If you have more than one keyboard configured, you may have to make sure you
have English UK when you open FP.
