I downloaded Windows XP Pro from my universitiy's software server (where they host all the software we have licenses for) and burned the files to CD, the problem is that the CD won't self-boot, and in order to create a clean install of XP Pro on my machine (that currently has XP Home) it copied some files from the CD on the hard drive. I want to format the hard drive and put a clean Pro install on there, is there a way I can do this without booting from CD? I have a second computer if there is a way to do a clean network install.

You could use the six XP boot disks - they'll install the mini-kernel and
allow you to continue with the CD-ROM installation. To learn more about
them, and how to obtain them, see
