I have partitioned my hardrive w/ two bootable areas
and "trial run" XP Pro in one of them (have ME in the
other)

QUESTION 1: - I want to get rid of ME - BUT - I would like
to re-install XP without all of the "extras" (MSN,
Accessability, IE, et al), so, can I:
- a - reformat (w/ NTFS) the partition where ME is now
and re-install XP to that area?
a1. - can do it from current XP, or boot PQ Partion
Magic?
- b - do the install & choose not to load all of
MS's "extras" during the install?

QUESTION 2: - after I installed XP the first time
("trial" - see above), I had to get (and load) a bunch of
updates to XP (and IE etc.) from MS which now shows a
bunch of programs in Cntrl Pnl/Add-Remove, SO...., can I:
- a - do the updates during the "new" XP install???
a1. - would this mean I WOULD have to do the install
from my current XP to have internet connectivity during
install (cable)?

QUESTION 3(multiple): - as a "former" (current) ME user, I
am used to running ZoneAlarm firewall, Norton Anti-virus,
PartitionMagic, 3rd party CD burning software etc., etc -
so my question(s) is (are) - I notice in XP that there are
a lot of these utilities "built in", so WHICH (if any) of
MS's "canned" utilities are good enough to replace what
I'm used to (so I don't have to load all of my 3rd party
stuff)? - like:
firewall
antivirus
CD burning
disk management (partitioning, et al)
performance monitoring

QUESTION 4:

ANSWER #1: Perform a "clean install" of Windows XP by
deleting your partitions, create new partitions, format the
primary partition NTFS and install Windows XP. IE is an
integral part of Windows XP and cannot be removed. You can
remove optional Windows XP components after XP is installed
by opening the Control Panel, clicking on the Add or Remove
Programs applet.

ANSWER #2: Updates must be installed after installing
Windows XP.

ANSWER #3: Windows XP includes a basic firewall and
CD Recording program. It would be best to install the
"full-featured", third-party firewall and CD recording programs
for optimum performance. Windows XP does not include
any antivirus program or protection.

ANSWER #4: You have to ask a question before an answer
can be given.
