New XP computer hijacks the network

I had a working wireless network including a computer running Windows 98 and a laptop running Windows ME
I recently added a new computer running XP to the network. Now, the XP computer can see and connect to the other machines, but none of them can see or connect to the XP machine or any other computer on the network. [The "Network Neighborhood" on the 98 and ME machines scans for other computers but never finds any].

I also have a MAC laptop running OSX which can see the XP machine not connect to it. When I try to connect, OSX goes down in flames....the only time I have ever had system crashes with this machine. Previous to adding the XP machine, I had no trouble connecting to the other machines from the MAC

Maybe I should mention that the internet connection for all the computers is via a broadband router on the Windows 98 machine...and this works fine. It is only file-sharing on the network that is a problem

So...what is going wrong? Is there some security stuff that keeps the XP machine from being recognized and connected t
by other machines on the network? If so, how do I get around that?

Run the Network Setup Wizard on the XP machine (but not on any other
machines, even if it tells you to!) to fully enable file sharing.
Tell the Wizard that it connects to the Internet through a
"residential gateway".

If there are still problems with some computers seeing others, disable
the Computer Browser service on XP:

1. Right click My Computer, and click Manage.
2. Double click Services and Applications.
3. Double click Services.
4. Double click Computer Browser. If the Service status is Started,
click Stop.
5. Set the Startup type to Disabled.
