I have been having a problem with a Trojan Horse
(Downdoader.apropo.o) and think I have rid my computer of
it . But I still cant get the windows update to work on
my XP system. I get an error message:

[Error number: 0x80070005]
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot
display the requested page. You may find the following
resources helpful in resolving the problem:

Before this I also got some similar error 0x8ddd004
something will not allow me to download the windows
updates - Do I still have a virus? I have used both AVG6
and Norton's to clean the whole thing. Maybe this is a
problem with the new Windows Web Interface - or am I
being dupped into a look-a-like Microsoft page? Any help
is appreciated - Jay

Click START, select RUN
Type: REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\atl.dll

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;836926 or
Win XP
Updates from the Windows Update Web site are not installed and an "Error
0x80070005: Access is denied" error message is logged to the Windows
Update.log file

Please also have a look at: "Access denied" section here:

Hi

Check if the "Automatic Updates" and the BITS service are enabled
and are possible to start and stop.

Start/Run --> services.msc

Then find "Automatic Updates" in the list, and double click on it.

Change Startup type Automatic if it is not, and press Apply.

Use the Start and Stop buttons to see if the service starts and
stops successfully.

Do the same for the service "Background Intelligent Transfer Service".

Will both services start successfully?
