New Win Update software?????

Received a popup screen indicating there's a new release
of WindowsUpdate software to download. This screen looks
legitimate and MS credentials are described. Valid?
However, I cannot find a reference to a new WinUpdate
release at the appropriate Microsoft pages. Also, I did
not receive a taskbar notification of MS updates to
download. Is this legitimate?
The popup describes a release date of Aug 25 2003 and I
received this popup Aug 29 2003.
 
Yes, it's legitimate. It installs an updated Windows Update
ActiveX control, version 5.4.3790.14 created 08/25/2003.
