Hello, I'm recently converting from java development to Visual C# development
and about to purchase a new laptop. I'm primarly going to be running Visual
Studio and probably Oracle for 1 user applications. Could anyone recommend
if I should spend the extra 100 dollars and purchase XP Professional. Is it
really needed?

Thanks for your feedback,

If you want to make use of the IIS or SMTP services, or many of the non-
home services, then yes. Personally, we do all of our development work
on XP Prof + Sp2 and then test on Win 2000, XP Prof SP1 and Sp2 and Win
2003.

If you are developing apps that should be run on XP Home then you need
to have a XP Home system to test your application on - in fact, it you
should have Ghost images of each OS/SP and then restore them to like-new
state before each testing phase to ensure that your app runs on a clean
system first.
