Hi,
I am new to the NG and Vista. I just got it two weeks ago when I got my
new laptop, an HP Pavilion dv9429us with 2gigs ram, 200 gig HD, Dual Core
x64 processor, yada yada. So far I haven't had any problems with Vista,
knock on wood. The only thing I don't like about it is that they took away
ActiveSync so I can no longer sync my old (but amazingly useful and
perfectly functioning) Jornada 720, a WinCE device.
I also have Vista running on my new week old desktop, a Dell Dimension.
(no, not rich, just had incredibly generous wedding guests at our wedding in
June) Again, no probs so far. Then again the old desktop was running ME
(which sucks incredibly) so even Vista is an improvement! Both computers run
Vista Home Premium.
Glad to be here! I've been using Windows since 3.1!

Good but I disagree that vista is better than windows Me.
Anything is better than vista.
And thats coming from someone who hated windows Me!
You can imagine how much I am "fond" of vista.... :-)

Sue,
Welcome to the group. But be careful if you say you like Vista the trolls
will attack you like buzzards.
Go to help and support on your computer and do a search for live sync.

there is no reason for anyone to attack her....

what she really should be afraid of vista-maniacs to keep saying that vista
is great
and that whatever goes wrong is her fault or some driver. Its never vista's
fault.

LiveSync won't recognize WinCE devices, only Windows Mobile/Pocket PC. The
Jornada 720 ceased production in 2001. It runs WindowsCE 3.1. Outdated, yes,
but still damn useful. :-)

Hopefully she won't pay attention to someone like you who spews out
Vista hatred with ever post.
Wanna dance?

I'd just like to point out that there are some folks who would say that me
to vista is not an improvement.

Only people who have never used either one would make such an ignorant,
ill informed and untrue statement.

Sue,

All I can say is... too bad you post a genuine question and get one reponse
that tries to address your question and eight replies that have their own
agendas...

Unfortunately, I have no answer for you. I'd go with the one person who
attempted to answer your question; search the Vista help system. Might try
Google, too.

Good luck!

So claims the grand pontificator that admits it took him six months to
figure out how to use Vista.

I have had it about six weeks and altough you need patience cause its
different to XP it is easy for those who learn and don't spend all their
time like you do, condeming.

Have you looked into this Vista option?

Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Windows Vista

Tell you what junior, when you get 30 years computer experience and
can document what's wrong with Vista you can tell us how clever you
are. Till then, STFU!

Well, as someone with over 40 years "computer" experience, I would remind
you that actually Windows hasn't been around for 30 years. I seem to recall
that Windows 1.0 arrived around 1985. So that would be about 22 years, then.
In fact, all that *matters* is learned in the last 3 or 4 years, sadly, so
that means that many of the newbies actually can achieve as much as us
oldbies. :-)

Of course, they don't have the depth of understanding...(and feel free to
insert other BS here....)

However, I personally have persevered with Vista x64 since February, and it
has now got a lot more stable, in fact it is actually useable now.

If only I could find a decent TV card which works with it...

Well said! Years of experience should have taught us a few things, but I,
personally, am running a bit short of patience these days. ;-)

Yes, I did once think that as computers got more sophisticated, they would
actually become easier to use. I'm not quite convinced that that has
happened. It might be because we like to be in control - and when (for
example) Windows takes that away from us (e.g. in automatic updates), we are
not quite sure that that is actually what we wanted. Problemmatic for the OS
writers, perhaps.

John.
