I have tried everything. Ad-aware detects and SAYS it deletes thi
"browser hijacker" program -- but each time I try to open Interne
Explorer, it will not open and the message at the bottom (that flicker
rapidly) is :
opening home page http://badurl.grandstreetinteractive.com....

I ran regdit and deleted "allaboutsearching" which also infected m
computer. It did not detect anything related t
grandstreetinteractive, though.

I canno coonect to the internet, so telling me to fgo to variou
websites to download other ant-virus software is pretty pointless.
need to delete this stuff from my computer without having to connect t
the internet. I would appreciate any insights.

*i dont have there software in my comp.

Did you ever solve this problem? I just encountered the same issue this
morning.

Open up your hosts file using notepad

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

There will be no extension.

This is what it should look like:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host
name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

Delete anything else and save the file. Scroll all the way to the
bottom, as some trojans/viruses/etc. like to add things after many
blank lines. You should now be able to start IExplorer and get
internet access.

Good luck!

I finally got rid of this virus last night. I searched for all file
with the textstring "grandstreet" and found a file in my Windows roo
directory called "systb.dll"

It was hard to rename/change/delete the file because I kept getting th
message that it was in use by Windows.

Somehow I renamed it by rebooting in safe mode. I also found a littl
program file called systb.exe and deleted that.

Amazingly, even after deleting these files, when I re-booted m
computer I got a message that "a third party has removed an importan
file...." (something like that)... this must be a very clever virus!!!

Hope this helps anyone else who is having this problem

I have the same problem with my grandsons computer, he brought it t
me a couple of weeks ago loaded with spyware and a burned up modem ,
replaced the modem and think I got rid of most of the spyware but whe
I rried to go to my home page on the internet it just sits there an
finally down at the bottom I get the messag
badurl.grandstreetinteractive.com. I have tried , registry repai
software, trojan removers, Had to go to another computer to download a
update to Spybot Search & Destroy but none of them have been able t
remove it. Would run Adaware but am unable to update it. Looks like
am going to have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall 98 but hat
to loose all of his files. I am open for suggestions too. Billjean7
