New video card?

I seem to keep having system hangs and blue screens. Clean XP Home install
on a 3 year old AMD 700 system with VooDoo II video card. I seem to recall
XP not having drivers for that card and even though I found an "independent"
XP driver set for it on the web, the system still seems to hang/abort. Its
seems like video driver problems from the old days but I'm not sure.

Anything else could cause this? Ran fine before with ME and 98.

Should I replace VooDoo? With what?

If you have the first few lines of text from the blue screen this would help
a lot with pinpointing it.

As for whether or not this is your problem -- see if you can get a borrow of
a cheap ATI or nvidia entry level card for a day or two from a friend (e.g.
a radeon 7x00 or a GeForce 4MX) and see if your problem goes away might be
the easy answer.

I'll get the error message if it occurs again - it was a blue screen fatal
error but don't recall the rest of the message. also, I get the system hung
with the mouse point frozen - again - just like old video or mouse driver
problems.
I did see another post about a flash update for mother boards - I suppose I
better look into that too.

I would replace the card as the VooDoo II is fairly old and may not
support the newer version of DirectX that XP uses nor is it ACPI
compliant.

There are many good cards that work great with XP. Look at the ATI,
Matrox, nVidia, etc. Go to each web site and compare. You can find
those cards discounted in web stores and at your local supplier.
