standard for any new updates??

Probably not, but you will find in many of these newsgroups many answers
telling people to uninstall Norton and return it or trash it.

No - it is not standard practice. I would suspect there is some
incompatibilities and the MSN updates know this and notify you in such a way
so that you KNOW there may be a problem and you have to make the conscience
choice to continue anyway.

Many people here will tell you that it would probably be a good choice
anyway - but that is truly a "what you are comfortable with and works for
you" decision. Norton is on its 2006 line of products - you may want to
consider and upgrade, visiting their website for help with this issue or
even switching to a different AV/Internet Security suite (you didn't say
WHAT norton product you were referring to.)

This is a Windows XP newsgroup. You might get more information by asking
this in an MSN related group.

What "msn up dates"? Did "Microsoft" send them to you in an attachment to
an email or in an MSN Messenger message?

Where did these "msn up dates" originate? If from an email, you have
successfully installed a virus which, for its own protection, wants you to
remove Norton.
