I have only just set up my first home network (a wireless one), so everything
is still new to me. I have two PCs in my home, both of which I've had for a
couple of years (both run WinXP SP2), one is in another bedroom, and
'belongs' to someone else, and one is in mine. I have followed the
instructions given to me by the supplier of the wireless equipment, and most
things seem fine.

However, when I purchased a network package, I was under the assumption that
I would be able to use the account on my computer to log onto the other
computer in the house, and visa-versa, yet this is not the case yet. What do
I do to achieve this?

Thanks in advance,
-Jim Trenowden.

Hi, Jim -

In order to log on to another computer in the house you have to be
granted access to that computer - either by having an account on the
target machine or through the machine's guest account.

If the target machine is XP Home (or XP Professional with simple file
sharing enabled) access will be through the guest account, but that
access still has to be enabled on the machine hosting the resource
you'd like to access. If the target machine is an XP Professional
machine with simple file sharing turned off you'll need a valid user
account on that machine in order to access its shared resources.

Hope this helps -
