Hello everyone, as you know I am new to Access, my question is, with access
if you want other people to add to your data base, do they have to have
access installed on the thier computers. After creating a data base will it
be a full functional stand alone database? Please forgive me if the question
sounds dumb, I really want to learn the program. Is access a good start for
data base design?

Thanks for you time.

Dear psychotoe:

Welcome to the wonderful world of Access! To run an Access database, every
computer has to have a copy of Access, either a full installation of
Microsoft Access, or a "runtime" installation, which you can create by
purchasing a "developer's" version of Access. The file you create with
Access cannot run without one of these versions of Access installed on the
computer.

Access is a great place for database design, but you should expect to spend
some time learning the program. Creating a successful database application
has a steeper learning curve than, say, creating a Word document, or an
Excel spreadsheet. The following link provides an exhaustive (and possibly
exhausting!) list of links related to all things Access:

You might also want to spend some time exploring the Northwind Traders
sample database that comes with Access. And this newsgroup is an invaluable
resource, and wonderful place to ask questions!

Good Luck!
