Hi,

I built a new system and transfered my hard drive from my
old computer to the new system and I get the blue screen
of death. When I return the hard drive back to the old
system it works like a charm.

Is there a way to transfer a hard drive to the new system
and have it work?

There is. You will need to do a Repair. Very simple procedure. Boot off
the Windows XP CD. Choose to install, and then it will find the Windows
XP installation (the existing one) and ask you if you want to repair.
Just press R to repair and it will do it all for you ;)

Chuck, you are getting a blue screen because WinXP is looking for all the
old devices and drivers from the
other Machine. While you are in the older computer see if you can
uninstall as many devices you can from
Device Manager. Rt click MyComputer>select Properties>Hardware>Device
Manager. Also go to
Start>Run type: regedit Navigate to
Hkey_Local_Machine\System\Current Control Set\Enum Delete the Enum Folder
in each of the Control Set entries. Also
Hkey_Current_Config\System\Current Control Set\Enum. That may work but if
not you need to do a clean or repair install of WinXP.

Normally, and assuming a retail license (many OEM installations
and licenses are not transferable to a new motherboard - check yours
_before_ starting), unless the new motherboard is virtually identical
(same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.) to the
one on which the WinXP installation was originally performed, you'll
need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at
the very least:

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will also require re-activation, unless you have a Volume
Licensed version of WinXP Pro installed. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most
likely be able to activate via the internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
