I know I can change the colour of individual elements in a Smartart chart,
but can I create my own colour scheme? The ones provided don't use the
sequence of colours I want, and I'd rather not have to change every element
of lower levels if there's a faster way. I have created my own template and
Theme colours for text styles, but I'm not sure how to do it for something
like this.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Jo

SmartArt in Word does seem to use the Theme color set here.

Elements on the same level use the same Theme color. I don't think you
can change that w/o applying manual formatting.

Hi Robert,

Thanks very much for your reply. I think you're right for the most part. I
kept fiddling with it and found that changing the theme did change the
colours, but not necessarily to what I wanted. I found that by creating a
colour set, I could control the colours for the first 2 or 3 levels of the
hierarchy chart, but it was very awkward and imprecise, and I couldn't seem
to set a colour for levels below that. As you suggest, I wound up just
manually changing them.

Thanks for confirming that, at least. :-) They're a great feature and I hope
MS continues to provide more options for us users.
