New Primary Hard Drive & XP

Jim

I have almost run out of room on my primary hard drive (I
have two others in the computer) and want to replace the
master with one triple the size. In all the books I've
looked at in the past couple of weeks in various stores &
libraries I cannot find any clear explanation of the best
way to do what I want.

First, do I merely use my original XP CD to install XP on
the brand new master drive? or will there be a problem
doing so since it will be the second time I'm using the
disk... what happens when I try to register??? Next, can
I bring some of my software programs on to the new drive
with all settings intact by making the present master a
slave? If so, how is the import done using the newly
installed XP? Is there an easy way to pull programs and
settings off a former master using XP? or do I have to do
everything from scratch? I'm amazed that there is no
literature on such a task. It would seem pretty common
that people would eventually want to put a new larger
master in and transfer programs and files without having
to do so manually from scratch.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Please feel free
to email me directly with the tips and suggestions.
Thanks.. (e-mail address removed)

Hi

Connect both drives up. Get something like Powerquest Drive Image or Norton
Ghost and use it to copy your old hard disk to your new one. Once copied
make sure that your new drive is the Primary Master and switch back on. Your
pc should now boot off the new larger drive with XP and your programs the
same as they were before.

Check the web-site of the HD Mfr. Most of them offer imaging software to
transfer to the new drive.
