New PC with XP pro preinstalled, wants administrator password on first bootup

I just bought a new shuttle pc with win xp pro sp2 preinstalled. It asks for
an administrator password which i dont know. I tried "Administrator" as it
said in the booklet thet came with the CD but it wont work.
How can i get this to work?

If it's a freshly installed copy of XP, it's asking you to
establish a password. You typing in "Administrator" is
prohibited, since the ID and password cannot match.

Make up a password that only you would guess, or -- as many
do-- go with " " (blank).

Are you able to logon at all, using any account?

A Standard XP install (I take it's OEM, eg. it came with the OS on it) will
prompt you to enter a new Username at logon. This User will have Admin
rights, and if you go into the Users & Groups snapin of Computer Management
(right-click My Computer, select manage), you'll be able to reset the
Administrator password from there.

If you need to login with the Administrator account at any stage, just
double Alt-Ctrl-Del and you'll be presented with the old style login prompt,
where you can enter the Administrator U/P

I wasn't prompted for a username, Not able to log on at all. The seller said
it was preinstalled and already registered, so they may have set the
password then, I'll just have to wait till monday to call them back i guess.
Darn, wanted to play with it over the weekend.

IF this is new - why not reinstall the OS and register it in your name . . .
OR reset the password with one of the many utilities out there . . .

Or, better yet - if the account you can log in to (assuming you can) is an
Admin account, go into Users and Passwords and change the Administrator
password.

Chances are its a blank password. Just hit Enter to proceed.
