Have windows xp on three computers in same office. Also have dsl router and have all three computers wired through network cards in each box. Want to network 3 computers and retain dsl to all three. Will purchase a 5 port switch, (not hub), and use xp wizard to set up. Do I need anything else? (am not going to use a seperate server, using fastest box as host.

You don't need the switch if you have a 4 port router. Just plug em into the router, follow your router setup instructions, & you're done. Windows XP is set by default to obtain an IP address automatically, so when you plug your computers into the router they should work :

Thank you very much for your reply. I was too stupid to also mention that router and dsl are already set up and working perfectly. I also want to share files and printers using fastest box of the three as host. Sahll I purchase anything else or just start in on the "network wizard"

thanks

Thank you for your reply. I neglected to mention that router and dsl are already setr up and working perfectly. My new project is to set up additional network so that we can share files. Have a very basic working knowledge of how to establish the network. Main question was if I needed another switch over and above the 4 or 5 port router I currently have

Thanks
