If it *installed itself* and you had nothing to do with it - it's no good to
you.

It is unwanted spyaware/adware, also known as New.Net

I can't get rid of this thing. I'm trying to remove it through eTrust
personal firewall and it says "cannot delete an active network", it gives me
the choice of putting it the internet zone or trusted zone, which should I
put it in or how can I get rid of it.

It should be in NO zone, as it is someting you didn't install, and that is
unwanted.

Your typcal barrage of anti-spyware utilities should be able to get rid of
it.

All in safe-mode (very important), AdAware, Spybot, & MSAS.
