New machine - old news account - problems.

Hi, I received this computer from Dell and it had Norton
internet security installed from the factory, and all was
fine until now. On news browser says "proxy failure" or
"improper login". The other connects to server ok, but acts
strangely in downloading.
What could be the cause of this?
Dell D0062, Xps410 E6300 with 2GB of PC2700 DD ram and Core2
Duo processor at 1.86 mhz.
I have heard some horror stories in this group regarding the
Norton Symantec products. Could this be an issue here.

Your post is unclear. What do you mean by "news browser"? When does this
error message occur? And then what do you mean by "The other connects to
server ok..."? "The other" what, and what server?
