I have just installed XP Home on a newly formatted
computer harddrive. When I try running for the first
time, I get the guest account screen. The problem: I
have never entered a password or guest user name, and it
wont let me by this screen. The computer is a new AMD 64
system with DDR RRAM. Any suggestions?

Windows XP does not support an AMD 64-bit computer. You'll need
the 64-bit version of Windows XP when it becomes available next year.

Carey,

The AMD64 - Athlon64 and Opteron processors are capable of running 32-bit
code and 32-bit operating systems.
They just will not yield their best performance until the poster switches to
a true 64-bit OS to support the processor, just as the Windows XP for
extended 64-bit systems.

NO problem - I think a lot of people are going to get confused and then also
wonder why there great new 64-bit computer is not giving them the much
talked about increase in performance, addressable memory etc etc because
either they chose to install something like Windows XP Home Edition or the
system builder shipped them Windows XP Professional and did not tell them
they need to really be waiting on the real 64-bit version of the OS.
Then there is the issue of once you get the 64-bit extended system OS - what
software do you run to really see the power? (remembering that this is a
home users PC not a multi proc server)
Yes you may be able to run your old 32-bit apps - but what was the point in
buying a 64-bit machines if you are going to do that.

Hmm ?! - we live in interesting times
