I backed up all files on separate drive first.
I ran the new installation of xp pro to start fresh and
get more room on c drive.
Everything was fine, downloaded all updates for xp,
downloaded acrobat reader, started installing drivers for
extra drives etc..
Then pow! Everything I was trying to erase, everything I
was trying to get rid of popped back into the c drive!
WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?
The reason I ran the new install was to get rid of
everything.

I went by cd boot. Then when given the choice of deleting
the c partition it warned that a new os would be
installed and I would lose all files on that partition.
The partition had about half used and half unallocated. I
pressed enter.
Setup began after what looked like a formatting procedure
that took some time. After xp started up I checked the
drive and it was nearly all free. Pie chart and all. So I
downloaded all the updates, started installing drivers
for a usb2 device. Then I remembered someone telling me
it's a good idea to defrag after installing the os. So I
did that and then checked the drive a 2nd time to find it
was half used! I went into windows explorer and checked
to see what was taking a the space. It was everything i
began with before installing xp pro. That's what I don't
understand. I went by the steps given and the prompts
given.
Thanks for your help,
Johnny
